East Palatka – On Saturday, July 11, 2010, the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office conducted a DUI and Safety Checkpoint at the Department of Transportation (DOT) Weigh Scales in East Palatka. Officers from the St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office, Alachua County Sheriff’s Office, Florida Highway Patrol, Motor Carrier Compliance, and Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission assisted the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office with the operation. A total of 33 officers participated in the checkpoint.
The checkpoint focused on identifying impaired drivers and vehicles with safety violations. A total of 215 vehicles were stopped while the checkpoint was under operation. The times of the checkpoint were 9:00pm – 12:00 am.
Eleven (11) arrests were made for the following violations:
5 – DUI arrests
3 – Drug related arrests
1 – Driving with a revoked driver’s license arrest
1 – Felony warrant arrest
1 – Habitual traffic offender arrest
Thirty-three (33) other traffic/motor vehicle violations were cited:
2 – Safety belt citations
2 – Child restraint citations
10 – Proof of insurance citations
1 – Open container violation
5 – Window tint violations
6 – Registration violations
5 – Insurance violations
2 – Failure to carry driver’s license violations
