On Saturday March 15, 2008, a school employee discovered a burglary, which had occurred at the Crescent City Jr/Sr High School. Several doors had been forced open, which included some of the fire safety glass doors being shattered. Several vending machines were also damaged. During the burglary, numerous door handles were broken and at least seven windows were shattered. Three laptop computers, one desk computer, one camcorder, one flat screen TV, one digital camera and $400.00 cash were stolen. The total estimated cost of damage to the property, according to school officials, was $9800.00.
On April 15, 2008, law enforcement personnel from the Clay County Sheriff's Office contacted law enforcement personnel from the Putnam County Sheriff's Office, in reference to the Crescent City HS burglary. CCSO detectives were investigating several school burglaries in their county, which had led to the arrest of Brandon Lee Dailey. They had also received information from a subject, who stated some of the computers found inside the residence, located in Orange Park, where Dailey was arrested, came from a Putnam County School, off Highway 17.
The information was relayed to Detective Shane Harrell, who has been conducting an investigation into the Crescent City HS burglary. He, along with Detective James Edgar, traveled to Clay County to interview the suspects.
Detective Harrell will be seeking arrest warrants for Dailey and two juveniles, in reference to the Crescent City HS burglary.
