The Putnam County Sheriff's Office in conjunction with the Putnam County School District established the School Resource Officer Program to provide law enforcement assistance to the school community, develop and foster a more positive attitude toward law enforcement by students, and to combat crime on a delinquency prevention basis.

Deputies serve as a resource to students, parents, faculty, and staff by:

1. Teaching and explaining the law enforcement role in society.

2. Providing programs for faculty, staff and PTO's as requested.

3. Counseling students as to the law and other matters.

4. Assisting the school with its security concerns.

5. Being available to talk with interested students, faculty, parents, etc., on questions or concerns as they relate to the law enforcement role.

6. Responding to law enforcement calls for service or conducting investigations at the schools.
